Bonding Rabbits
Slow and steady
Introduce rabbits in neutral territory
Use high-value treats throughout the process
Scent swapping
Immediately separate if exhibiting problematic behavior (lunging, grunting, excessive humping, biting, circling).
Reward positive, neutral, and mimicking behaviors like eating hay together, grooming themselves in front of each other, grooming each other, and sleeping in the other rabbit's presence.
Pet both bunnies at the same time
Playdates - Start with 5 minutes, work up to an hour, up to a few hours, etc.
100% supervised until bonding is complete.
Like people, bunnies may pick and choose who they like or don't like. One bunny may prefer a calm partner, while another bunny may benefit from a bunny who can match their high energy.
Most bunnies do better with a bunny friend, but some bunnies prefer to be the only rabbit in the home.
